INTRA-AFRICA TRADE FAIR 2018
The Intra-Africa Trade Fair 2018 (IATF2018) is the first seven-day trade show scheduled to take place at Egypt International Exhibition Centre, Cairo, Egypt from the 11th to the 17th of December 2018. The Trade Fair is being promoted by the African Export-Import Bank and organized in collaboration with the African Union.

According to the African Economic Outlook 2017, trade between African countries has the greatest potential for integration and building sustainable economic development. Despite only 10% of all trade in Africa being intra-African; it has enormous potential to grow billions, if countries adhere to building greater economic partnerships.

The Assembly of the African Union, during its eighteenth ordinary session that was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2012, endorsed an Action Plan for Boosting Intra-African Trade (BIAT). The decision was aimed at deepening Africa’s market integration and the achievement of sustainable socioeconomic development through trade.

This year, we are supporting some of our producers showcase their products in the spirit of promoting Intra-African trade. This is in a bid to open up the much need markets to farmers who more than often lack access to trade and market information. One of our strategic objectives is to build, secure and sustain access to market for our members. We believe that market access is not the only measure of Fairtrade’s success but it is a prerequisite for all the impact that we want to achieve by supporting democratic organisations. Without sales we achieve nothing- with the right kind of sales we can start to change the world.

The following Fairtrade certified producers will be participating in this year’s fair:

• Satemwa Tea Estates- Malawi
• Msumwadzi Small holder Tea Growers Association- Malawi
• Kapkoros Tea Factory Company Limited- Kenya
• Barichu Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited- Kenya
